Free now...

A week ago my Ninang Elo died and six days after she was laid to rest.

She had a very good fight with her illness. She was very strong all through out her battle. And I know she is happy now, free from illness, free from worries, and peacefully resting while watching all of us.

During her burial last Sunday an hour necrological was given to her by her colleague in her teaching job. There were people who had their message and last farewell. One of her co-teacher and friend told everyone how she met her husband (Papa Nopes to us). It was how my Ninang considered her soon-to-be husband as her soul mate. A courtship ended on a wedding date. Papa Nopes was the last one to give his message. It was brief yet meaningful, he sent thank you to everyone who went to the wake.

At the end of services, there was an AVP presentation of her old photos, mostly during her teaching days. It was a very touching moment. The song I am Free will be memorable from now on.

Right after the necrological, the mass was offered. It was overwhelming to see many people attended her burial and offered flowers and prayers. Then it was teary when the mass ended, all of us knew that in a few more minutes we could no longer see her. Jorrel, my cousin Jojo’s 7 yr old son, was crying hard when it was time for us to say goodbye.

The lighter side, in some way it turned out to be a reunion of our families. After the funeral, we all gathered at their family house for a short chitchat.

Finally, the day ended, it was tiring…and I know there’s one person who needs a lot of sleep – my Nanay.
